What is Together, Language?
Together, Language is the first educational consulting firm that specializes in helping schools serve multilingual families by setting up multilingual communication tools and systems, get their whole staff using them, and teaching educators Spanish to improve the warmth of the school environment.
This is not a translation or interpretation service. Together, Langauge is the only support agency dedicated to this issue, created by an educator who understands that having translation and interpretation available for school staff is the first step, but is not enough to create an equitable or compliant school environment. People have to actually use their resources -- and not just one or two people, but everyone, and achieving that is often where schools need the most guidance and support. Additionally, schools can better take care of families when more staff have relevant language skills to do so.
Together, Language was founded by Anne Truran, who fell in love with the classroom when she began teaching first grade on the Texas-Mexico border in 2009. Having worked seasonally in Mexico and Central America in the non-profit sector as well as in public schools in the Rio Grande Valley, Austin, and St. Louis, under many titles (from teacher to interventionist to assistant principal to family support specialist), and with speakers of many languages, the through-line in her career has been a commitment to making sure families who speak any language have access to
information, programming, and people at school.
She believes from experience that every school and mission-driven organization should and can be designing their systems of communication and access around language diversity to be healthier, have greater impact, and more fun at work.
Anne has a young son and dog who are learning Spanish and English at the same time.
She loves gardening, strolling in her neighborhood park, and slow travel.
